Here’s how to protect your print’s paper, printed surface and any hand-applied gold while you prepare it for framing and enjoy it at home.

Handle gently

Use clean, dry hands and hold the print by its unprinted margins. Avoid touching the printed area or gold: skin oils can mark the paper and dull the gold. Do not rub the surface or place books, objects or other prints on top of it.

Keep it protected before framing

If your print arrived in a presentation box, keep it safely inside until you are ready to frame it, with tissue clear of the gold surface. Otherwise, keep it flat in its protective packaging, without pressure on the artwork. Store it in a clean, dry place away from heat and moisture.

Frame with care

Prints are supplied unframed. Ask a professional framer about conservation mounting and suitable materials for a print with gold detailing. A mount or appropriate spacers should keep the printed surface and gold away from the glass.

Do not apply ordinary masking tape, self-adhesive tape or glue directly to the paper. Your framer can advise on a suitable mounting method that supports the sheet without damaging it.

Choose a suitable place to display it

Keep your framed print out of direct sunlight and away from radiators, fireplaces and damp areas. Avoid touching or cleaning the gold or printed surface yourself.
